The Immortals of Meluha - Amish Tripathi

Immortals of Meluha
I liked the following lines as a promotion for this book

"Enter the world of immortals
of perfect and pure warriors
Sustained by the magical 'somras'
Plagued by the 'carriers of bad fate'
Defending their borders against the impure
Besieged by the hooded terrorists
A land on the verge of conflict
Finds strength in an ancient legend
the fruition of Lord Ram's unfinished task
by the destroyer of the evil
A kingdom seething the war
waits for the chosen one
A man seen by none "

The Immortals of Meluha is the Story of Shiva, a simple man, whose Karma recasts him as our Mahadev. The God of Gods.

‘The Immortals of Meluha’ is written by Amish Tripathi, 35 year old IIMC grad who works with IDBI as National Head Marketing & Product.

This book is the first in the trilogy he is writing.

Trilogy is as follows:

Book 1: “The Immortals of Meluha” – Released on 28′th Feb 2010

Book 2: “The Secret of the Nagas”

Book 3: “The Oath of the Vayuputras”

Infrastructure As A Service - Cloud Computing In India

Infrastructure As A Service (IAAS) is the latest buzz in these times of capex cuts across organizations.

IAAS is a Cloud Computing concept, where the Infrastructure is available as a virtualized resource and is scalable as per the requirement of the user.

Recession hit companies, that have tight budgets for their expansion plans are seriously exploring the IAAS concept, as it provides them with the much needed infrastructure at zero Capex.

Recently, Indian Telecom Major Tata Communications announced that it will offer Infrastructure As A Service (IAAS) to Indian enterprises on a pay-per-use basis. Tata Communications is partnering with NetApp to provide these services.

NetApp has upgraded its ONTAP 7G and GX versions and came up with a robust ONTAP offering for the new age enterprise cloud computing needs.

Tata Communications provides the choice of time slots when the customer can use the infrastructure facilities.

Tata focuses on the Small & Medium Enterprise space, as the SMEs are the segment with Capex constraints. Further, SMEs need generic services with least customization.

As of date, only 5 percent enterprises have adopted cloud computing. However, over 40 percent of Indian enterprises are looking at adopting cloud computing services over the coming days.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is the concept of using computing resources over the internet.

The title "cloud" in computing parlance is an abstraction of the complex internet infrastructure; that the end user need not worry to know about, as long as his computing requirements are met with.

Cloud computing users (customers) do not generally own the physical infrastructure that they are using. They just pay for the services that they consumed.

So, Cloud Computing essentially saves the companies from huge Capex that they otherwise had to incur for their computing needs

Typical Cloud Computing Services that are available in the current market are:
Software As A Service (SaaS)
Platform As A Service (PaaS)
Infrastructure As A Service (IaaS)

Hibernate - High performance ORM framework

Hibernate is a high-performance object/relational persistence and query service.

The most flexible and powerful object/relational solution on the market, Hibernate takes care of the mapping from Java classes to database tables and from Java data types to SQL data types.

It provides data query and retrieval facilities that significantly reduce development time. Hibernate's design goal is to relieve the developer from 95% of common data persistence-related programming tasks by eliminating the need for manual, hand-crafted data processing using SQL and JDBC.

Hibernate provides an easy to use framework for mapping an object-oriented domain model to a traditional relational database. Its purpose is to relieve the developer from a significant amount of relational data persistence-related programming tasks.
Hibernate also provides data query and retrieval facilities.

Hibernate generates the SQL calls and relieves the developer from manual result set handling and object conversion, keeping the application portable to all SQL databases, with database portability delivered at very little performance overhead.

John grisham, well known author of law trail novels, comes up with another master piece from the same genre.

He also dreams of becoming a great judge noted for his wisdom and fairness. He is always in a confused state to decide which dream he has to run after.

Axis2 -- XML based web service framework

Apache Axis2 is the core engine for Web services. It is a complete re-design and re-write of the widely used Apache Axis SOAP stack, built on the lessons learnt from Apache Axis.

The new architecture on which Axis2 is based on is more flexible, efficient and configurable in comparison to Axis1.x architecture.

Some well established concepts from Axis 1.x, like handlers etc., have been preserved in the new architecture.

Apache Axis2 not only supports SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2, but it also has integrated support for the widely popular REST style of Web services. The same business logic implementation can offer both a WS-* style interface as well as a REST style interface simultaneously.

Apache Axis2 is more efficient, more modular and more XML-oriented than the older version.

It is carefully designed to support the easy addition of plug-in "modules" that extend their functionality for features such as security and reliability.
